Judge on phone or on paper

Updated on 30 October 2026

On the day, your judges score the way you want, on their phone, on a printed scorecard, or both in the same heat. There is no mode to choose in advance. Every entry writes the same official score, the one used for the leaderboard. If you judge entirely on paper, nothing changes for you. This article covers on-site functional fitness competitions.

On paper

The Export menu offers Scorecards, the judge sheets to print, generated from the heats or from the participants. Each WOD also has its own Print the scorecard button. Someone then enters the scores on a computer, in the Scoring tab.

Giving judges access

A judge is a staff member placed on a lane in the schedule. That placement is enough, they get no access to your admin.

  • In the schedule, the Copy link button in a lane's Judge field copies the judge's personal link. It opens in the phone's browser, with no app and no account.
  • A judge who has an account finds the Judge the WODs button on their staff ticket, in My registrations. During the days of the competition, a Judge button also shows at the top of the app.
  • The judge receives an email and a notification when their access is ready, once the competition is published, the schedule visible and the judge placed on a lane.

The judge's screen

Their list for the day puts Now first, the lane waiting for them, then To do with the heat, the lane, the time and the floor. Lanes already signed fold away at the bottom under Signed. When opening a lane, the judge reads the WOD they are scoring, its scoring and its description, even if the WOD is still hidden from the public. The Leave button, at the top right, closes the judge screen.

Scoring and getting it signed

On a WOD scored in reps or rounds, a big button counts each rep with a tap, with a way to remove a rep or type the total. A time or a load is typed into its field. At the end, the athlete signs on the screen. If the score changes after the signature, the athlete has to sign again.

The phone keeps each score before sending it. Without a network, the scores go out on their own as soon as the connection is back, even after the page is reloaded.

The head judge starts the heats

In the staff roles, tick Can start heats on your head judge's role. From their judge screen, they open Start heats and see the current heat and the next one on each floor.

  • The Start button records a start ten seconds later, on the server time. Every judge phone in the heat and the Cast show the same countdown down to GO, then the WOD clock.
  • Cancel the start stays possible for one minute.
  • Each judge can tap I'm ready. The head judge sees how many judges are ready and which lanes are not. Nothing blocks, they can start anyway.

The Start button in Live tracking also starts the heat ten seconds later.

The clock and the time cap

Once the start is received, the WOD clock runs on every phone, even without a network. It counts up on a For Time and down on an AMRAP. At the time cap, it freezes on Time's up and the big button stops counting. The judge can still correct the score before getting it signed.

The WOD breakdown for judges

In a WOD's window, the Detail for judges on their phone box is optional. You describe a For Time in rounds or an AMRAP, the reps per round, for example 21-15-9, and the movements. The What the judge sees preview shows the result.

With this breakdown, the phone guides the judge, for example Thrusters 14 of 21, then moves on to the next movement automatically. The last rep writes the time since the start. A capped athlete is scored at the cap with their reps, and the tie-break time is taken along the way. Without a breakdown, the judge counts and types their score as usual.

Practice before the day

The Try it button opens a practice heat, a one-minute AMRAP with a practice athlete. Nothing is recorded. During the staff meeting, the head judge taps Start a trial for everyone and all the judges who have the practice heat open start together.

The scoring table

In the Scoring tab, the second tab, Live tracking, is for the scoring table. It shows the venue time with any delay, the heat on the floor and the next one, the progress of the day, and one card per heat. Each lane is colored by its score, signed, received without a signature, missing or contested, with the name of its judge. The leaderboard is calculated with every score received, and the Cast broadcasts it on the big screen, see Display your leaderboard on a big screen.
